Unhealthy Baby Foods : Every parent wants to keep their children healthy. For this, they adopt every kind of measure, from food to everything else. To give them ample nutrition, they give them milk, fruits and also baby foods sold in the market. These days, the demand for baby foods has increased a lot.
But do you know how dangerous these baby foods are for your child? A new research has revealed that more than 60% of baby foods sold in America do not meet the WHO nutrition guidelines, putting children’s health at risk.
Baby foods are dangerous for children’s health
Packaged baby foods sold in the USA can reduce the nutrition of children instead of increasing it. This can cause many problems for children when they grow up. This research, conducted at the George Institute for Global Health, a medical research center in Australia, examined 651 commercial baby food products purchased from major American grocery chains from March to May 2023. It was found that these are not meeting the World Health Organization’s 2022 standards. In which it is mandatory to have 70% protein.
Only 44% protein was found in these products. The sugar level in them was also found to be much higher than the prescribed limit. Apart from this, the calorie content was also not correct in 1 out of 4 products, while the sodium level was very high in 1 out of 5 products.
Why baby foods are dangerous
Dr. Elizabeth Dunford, research fellow at The George Institute and assistant professor in the Nutrition Department at the University of North Carolina, said that rapid growth takes place in early childhood. During this time, proper diet habits are formed.
If you are careless about your diet during this time, then it can increase the risk of diseases like obesity, diabetes or cancer. Children should not be given too much sugar or processed foods in the beginning. Otherwise, many problems can arise later, including high blood pressure and heart disease.
These foods can be fatal for children
A research report by Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health published in The BMJ states that eating too much of ultra-processed foods like processed meat, sweet breakfast foods and sugar can increase the risk of premature death manifold, therefore children should be given the right diet from childhood so that such problems do not arise in their life.
